Most Haunted places show some kind of evidence of paranormal activity such as an unaccounted noise, or a drop in temperature, or even a feeling of presence - that someone else is really present. A ghost is the disembodied spirit of a dead person. It shows the conscious energy left from a living person after they have died. You can usually detect this conscious energy or ghost in most haunted houses.

Sometimes the ghost is a form of recording and replays the same scene over and over again. This is residual energy. When a person has performed repetitious acts for a long period it can leave a psychic impression in that area. For example, the strong emotions associated with battles can leave a psychic impression on the battlefield. Over time the psychic impression can become weak and fade away, but if conditions are right it can be recharged.

A spirit is the actual living essence, or soul, of a person that has remained after their physical body has died. Spirits usually appear for one of three reasons. If a person died suddenly or with little warning, as in the case of a car accident, they may not realize that they are dead. Someone could be confined to this world by an un-kept promise made to a loved one. Finally, they might have unfinished business.

Many people report physical changes in haunted places, often a feeling of a presence accompanied by temperature drop and hearing unaccountable sounds.

It is possible to receive communication from the deceased person. That communication can be a sudden felling of sadness when you enter a room, or sudden thoughts that come into your mind as a form of communication.

If paranormal activity is documented repeatedly in a location, for a period of time this would be considered a haunting. If events continue to take place in a home or building with no logical explanation this would be considered a haunting. Common indications for a haunted location are seeing ghostly apparitions, feeling colds spots, electro-magnetic energy in the area, poltergeist activities and objects disappearing and reappearing.
